What will I learn on this module?

In this module you will build on the design thinking, skills and knowledge gained in ‘Bootcamp One’ by engaging with approaches to identifying design problems and by further developing your ability to respond to them creatively. You will develop the verbal and visual communication skills needed to present your work and collaborate effectively through presentations and group work. You will also continue developing the appropriate research skills for both practical design work and continuing academic study.

How will I learn on this module?

You will be set practical assignments that will provide the opportunity for you to develop your ability to identify, understand and creatively address design problems. You will be introduced to these assignments with an initial briefing that will outline and contextualize the brief. You will undertake these assignments through a mixture of studio-based learning activities and independent studies. You will be supported in developing your response through small group tutorials and critiques (crits).

Through these assignments you will also be supported in developing your ability to undertake self-directed work, independent learning and manage projects. Group assignments and presentation will enable you to develop the communication skills you will need for both your continuing studies and for the design industry. You will also continue to develop your research skills through enquiry-based learning by engaging in formal research activities.

How will I be supported academically on this module?

You will be supported academically primarily through a regular series of group and individual critique sessions with clear milestones and presentation points made explicit during the briefing at the beginning of the Module.

Outside of the scheduled critique sessions running throughout the Module, you will have access to the training/skills portal and Blackboard and can also contact staff personally or by email for additional support if required.

How will I be assessed?

A range of projects will be carried out and grades given at the submission of all projects. At the end of the module, grades will be collated to provide a final mark for the module, which is 100%.

The assessment and feedback strategy is;

a. Formative Assessment?
You will receive verbal formative feedback both individually and in groups throughout the module. This feedback will facilitate development of your two assignments. This feedback will allow you to reflect upon your own work and act upon feedback prior to final submission.

b. Summative assessment
The project brief/s driving the module will identify the assessment criteria and submission requirements (deliverables) appropriate to the topic of the project. This will enable you to demonstrate the process and technical skills developed throughout the module. A single grade will then be aligned to the submission based upon the deliverables.

c. Feedback strategy?Feedback will be delivered verbally at the point of each seminar, where discussion will clarify future direction. Upon receiving summative assessment you will receive a grade reflecting achievement against the learning outcomes of the module, along with feedback stating strengths and areas for improvement.

This module is exempt from the Anonymous Marking Policy. The nature of working closely and directly with the students in workshops makes anonymity unfeasible.
