LD7133 - Operations & Supply Chain Management

This module is delivered through a combination of online resources, directed learning, group learning and independent learning. The taught sessions will adopt a variety of approaches to learning and teaching including tutor-led input on theoretical content and case study analyses using these theories to allow you to establish the connection of theory with practice. Some sessions will be delivered by industrial partners, which can give you real experience about the application of supply chain management theories in practice.
In addition, the module will be supported by resources available on the e-learning module site.

The module has a supporting reading list that helps you to have a more in-depth understanding of the related theories and principles and how they are applied to various business problems. It is anticipated that you will engage with both directed reading and independent reading to enhance your knowledge and understanding.

Importantly, you will also learn at work, through reflecting on your experiences and applying your knowledge from the module to your practice in the workplace. During the workshops you will be encouraged to discuss the theories and concepts with the tutors and your peers to understand how these relate to your own work based experiences. The module will provide directed activities to enable you to transfer the learning into your workplace and provide an opportunity for you to apply and evidence the development of your own professional practice. Finally, there will be an opportunity for you to reflect and review your learning with your workplace mentor and executive coach.

Support will be provided to you by the team of academic staff delivering the module.
Your module is supported by an e-learning portal, which houses lecture materials, seminar cases, alongside assessment details and various support facilities such as recordings of certain lectures and other electronic support materials.

You will be provided with a wide-ranging electronic reading list that comprises of various academic reports, journal papers, industry reports that showcase the application of various latest supply chain management theories and principles presented in the module.
The module assessment consists of several inter-related tasks. This will encourage your active participation in the learning process throughout the semester. The e-learning portal will be used to permanently host these tasks after release to ensure that you can access the information required at all times. Your work on these tasks contribute to the assessment of the module.

On completion of the module you will be able to:

Formative assessment: ongoing feedback will be provided by the module team during the taught sessions as you complete the interrelated tasks which contribute to the end of module assessment.

Summative assessment: A 3000-word individual assignment related to the in-class tasks which focuses on issues of strategic importance. The assessment is weighted at 100% and assesses all the module learning outcomes.

Operations and Supply chain has become the competitive advantage for many companies and the demand for supply chain management talents is rising. This module provides the essential knowledge and skills in operations and supply chain management giving you a theoretical and practical understanding of various operations and supply chain topics. In particular, this module will lead you to apply these theories and principles in real business practices. Latest research outputs will be learned, discussed and finally applied into practice. Various techniques such as online supply chain game will be used to help you understand the rationale behind the theories. You will undertake various assessment tasks leading to a final assignment which places emphasis on your research findings of selected topics. These problem solving and analytical skills are directly transferable to your work life. Your additional experiences within the module centre on support reading giving you additional awareness of the broad scope of supply chain management such as sustainability issues in supply chain management.
