DA7012 - Knowledge for Advanced Clinical Practice (Apprenticeship End Point Assessment)

Once transition through gateway is confirmed, you will progress to this EPA module where there will be no taught contact and you will be considered ‘off programme’. The decision will be made by your employer in collaboration with the university about whether you are ready to progress to EPA.

Once off programme, you will undertake self-directed study to prepare for the two-component assessment of the EPA that allows you to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and behaviours of the advanced clinical practitioner apprenticeship standard (see link above).

There is no taught contact time allowed once you progress to this module.

As an apprentice, the duration of your programme will be preparing you for this end point. The allocated seminar time for this module will be spread across your programme, and will be completed prior to starting the module. This is because preparation for your EPA must be independent. The seminars will help you to understand the requirements of the EPA, thus helping you to prepare for it. This programme long support will be provided by the programme lead, your module leads, your personal tutor and your clinical supervisor via classroom sessions, tripartite support meetings and clinical practice supervision.

Summative:

Part 1 – 50% of your apprenticeship grade

Apprentices will sit an unseen open book examination of 2 hours duration under invigilated examination conditions. The examination will assess the knowledge, skills and behaviours for Advanced Clinical Practice identified for assessment in the examination

Part 2 – 50% of your apprenticeship

This is a synoptic assessment with two elements that demonstrates the Apprentice’s integration of the knowledge, skills and behaviours across the Advanced Clinical Practitioner standard. The presentation of practice assessment comprises:

Element 1 - a 1500 word clinical practice change report which includes the outline of an evidence based background and proposed clinical practice change related to the Apprentices area of clinical practice.

Element 2 -– a 35 minute presentation assessment comprising of a 25 minute presentation followed by 10 minutes for questions to allow the panel to gain clarification on any aspect of the presentation or the clinical practice change report. The purpose of the presentation is to draw upon the clinical practice change report report and to discuss the implementation of the development in practice.

Feedback for both parts of this assessment will be electronic via the eLearning portal.

The module focuses on you as an individual and aims to enable you to fulfil the requirements of the EPA. The module is built around a number of individual and group learning activities that are delivered throughout your programme to help you to identify how the ACP programme modules map into the National Standards for the Integrated Degree Apprenticeship for Advanced Clinical Practitioner at Level 7 and support your achievement of the EPA.

Prior to your EPA module you will be encouraged to attend support seminars where you will have opportunity to share and discuss your plans, your challenges and your successes in way that offers support to you, and your peers. This sharing of understanding and experiences will form an integral part of your learning, particularly for the way networks can be developed and sustained as a personal and professional support mechanism.

When you study this Masters programme as an apprenticeship, in addition to your degree grade you will be awarded an apprenticeship grade. The apprenticeship grade range includes fail, pass, merit and distinction and this module will provide you with your apprenticeship grade.
