NX9706 - Induction

You will learn through a model that combines an academic knowledge base, online support, and engagement with your peers and tutors on your programme. The module will be delivered through a mix of lecture, seminar, and workshop sessions, supported by on-line learning materials and activities. In order to develop your capacity and confidence as an effective learner, you will also engage in independent learning. This will be supported by tutor-guided activities, including prompted reading, activities to undertake and questions to address. Independent study requirements also entail reading beyond the learning materials/reading list provided, reflecting on its potential relevance for your own development.

A range of approaches are adopted to accelerate your learning in this module.

During your induction, you will receive information about the module and Teaching & Learning Plan. The teaching and learning plan (TLP) sets out
• Learning outcomes and overall module and programme aims
• Teaching, learning and assessment strategy
• Teaching schedule
• Directed reading references (text and journals)

The Teaching and Learning plan will provide a number of prompts and guidance to support you academically. Support will also include opportunities to gain feedback from workshop tutors, guidance tutors and peers.

Your module is also supported by an e-learning portal, which houses all the module learning materials, workshop resources, interactive activities, self- assessment details and various other support facilities which are provided by the University.

E-Reading Lists
The module will also have an e-reading list which directs learners to specific reading for each session. This includes direct access to repositories, journal articles and other academic sources. You will also be provided with access to academic research sources via the Northumbria University library portal.

You will also have opportunities to receive formative feedback from your tutor in response to opinions you express and issues you raise during workshop sessions and face-to-face or online tutorials. These formative feedback sessions are formally scheduled at key points throughout the duration of your programme.

This module has no summative assessment but will have a range of formative assessment tasks which will support the development of the necessary academic and professional skills which underpin your MBA learning journey.

This module will support your transition into postgraduate higher education by developing the specific skills and attributes to both manage your studies, and to communicate your ideas effectively within the academic community. You will develop your critical academic voice, assess a range of primary and secondary information sources, using these to construct effective academic arguments, as well as apply ethical considerations to your own projects and those of others. The module also supports the development of your professional practice by enabling you to reflect on your professional skills and plan your own personal development and approaches to managing your future career.
