About this course 2018/19

This one-year completion course in Mobile Communications Engineering is the ideal way to develop your technical knowledge and project management skills while gaining an Honours degree.

If you already have an HND or Foundation Degree in a related subject, this course will develop your knowledge of wireless networks and mobile systems communications.

You will learn in our state-of-the-art labs which boast some of the best Radio Frequency and microwave facilities in the UK and will be taught by staff whose pioneering research informs their high-quality teaching.
Graduates typically go on to work in the mobile communications industry as professional engineers.

Their industry experience includes international video compression standardisation work for British Telecom’s Visual Telecoms research team at Martlesham Heath.

Teaching and Assessment

You’ll learn through lectures and laboratories as well as time with tutors where you’ll develop your problem solving skills. You’ll be encouraged to research existing and current technologies for each module and explore the developments taking place in industry. 

Laboratory sessions provide demonstrations of the theory covered in lectures and bring practical problems and limitations to life. These are often directly informed by the industrial expertise and research interests of the academic staff.

As part of this course you’ll undertake a substantial individual Design Engineering Project, which critically evaluates and applies appropriate design techniques and methodologies.

Assessments reflect the wide range of teaching and learning practices and subjects and include seminar work, laboratory exercises and online tests as well as assignments, exams, technical reports, presentations and project work.
You’ll be supported by online learning materials and access to lab resources.

Learning Environment

You’ll have access to state-of-the-art labs which boast some of the best Radio Frequency and microwave facilities in the UK.

You’ll get the opportunity to explore and develop your design ideas to provide innovative solutions to a variety of real world applications, whilst being assessed on your knowledge, understanding and application. You’ll be encouraged to work independently and explore at your own pace to prepare for laboratory exercises.

Your learning experience is enhanced by the latest technology which provides self-guided exercises, online tests with feedback, assessment feedback and videos and tutorials to support lecture material.

If English isn’t your first language, an optional Academic Communication module can provide additional language skills so that you can take full advantage of the learning opportunities offered.

Most of our overseas students on this course return to their home countries to take up positions in the Telecommunications industry.
