This course is suitable for anyone wishing to achieve their first coaching qualification. You may already be operating as an organisational or independent coach, a manager or technical professional wishing to learn how to use coaching in your day to day interactions and management of others; or a people development specialist looking to integrate coaching into your own or your organisation’s practice. We welcome applications from people at all stages of their career and it is not always necessary to have a degree, as long as you have an appropriate level of experience.

In the first module, Understanding Coaching, your learning will focus on developing your understanding of coaching as a process; appreciating the differences of coaching to mentoring/counselling and how coaching has emerged as a concept and professional practice.

Furthermore, you will develop your self-awareness, exploring your preferences and values to enable the development of your coaching identity and understanding of self as a coach. You will be introduced to coaching frameworks, with opportunities to practice implementing coaching techniques and experience being coached.

The second module, Psychological Approaches to Coaching, will develop your understanding of the psychological theories that underpin a range of coaching approaches, such as behavioural, cognitive and person centred coaching. You will research and share knowledge of appropriate tools and techniques that can be used in coaching and the implications of their use. You will gain greater insight into your own coaching identity and through this you will be able to select appropriate coaching approaches, tools and techniques; working towards your own integrated model of coaching practice. You will learn about neuroscience in coaching, the role of supervision and begin to develop your approach to contracting with coaching clients.
