Preventive Conservation develops an understanding of the wide range of materials that are used to create objects of moveable cultural heritage as well as the most appropriate strategies for storage, display and transportation.

This highly vocational programme offers you the opportunity to carry out work placements to further develop your skills and understanding.

You will study modules on the theories of preventive conservation, environmental management, physics and chemistry. You will be taught using lectures and seminars and assessed through assignments, portfolios and examinations.

The flexibility of this engaging, interactive programme allows students to study within their own culture and environment and to learn when where and at what pace is best for them. All the materials are available online throughout the programme. This is particularly helpful for students who do not have English as a first language. Many students take the part time or DL format in order to continue in employment whilst studying.

Upon graduating, you will be able to take up such jobs as preventive conservation officer, environmental manager or collections manager in a museum, gallery, historic property or area museums service.
