Developing your critical knowledge, you will learn from inspirational, approachable, research-focused staff. As well as lectures, you will engage in workshops and practical sessions getting hands-on experience with our state-of-the art facilities such as the Brain Performance and Nutrition Research Centre and the Centre for Sleep Research.

BSc (Hons) Psychology will test your skills and knowledge, allowing you to build confidence and graduate level thinking, enabling you to become work ready.

On this course, you will gain an understanding of the theories behind how we think and behave. BSc (Hons) Psychology will draw upon a wide range of psychology disciplines including; cognitive psychology, psychobiology, developmental and social psychology. As you progress you will have the opportunity to select modules reflecting your own interests, with a wide range of options to choose from including; counselling, crime and eating disorders.

As well as providing a wealth of knowledge, expected of any modern psychology course, our BSc (Hons) Psychology at Northumbria offers the opportunity to undertake a work-based placement following your second year, in areas such as mental health, brain injury and education.

In your final year of the course you can make an impact by conducting your own original piece of research allowing you to apply knowledge and understanding to new problems, graduating with not only a psychology degree but also valuable transferrable and critical thinking skills.

In developing your understanding of psychology, you will be well on your way to a career in areas such as clinical, forensic, educational, health, counselling psychology as well as education and further study.

Upon graduating with this psychology degree, the British Psychological Society (BPS) will allow you to apply for Graduate Membership of the Society*; the first step towards becoming a Chartered Psychologist**.

Placements (1)Psychology placement opportunities and modules are offered at both Level 5 and Level 6, designed to help Northumbria University students develop employability skills such as time management, communication, problem solving and self-management.
