Please note that the last intake to the first year of this course was in the academic year beginning in September 2015. The course has since been revalidated, and if you are interested in starting the first year in 2016/17 or later please follow this link to the latest version.

caption: Professional Praactice in Sport Coaching MSc at Northumbria UniversityAs a sports fan, you are passionate about developing a career in sports coaching and are eager to inspire young people, adults and communities through sport.

On this sports coaching course you will develop a detailed knowledge of coaching and sporting theory and will learn how to apply this effectively, with knowledge that may not be taught in a general sports degree. You will also gain expertise in athlete development, the application of the science of coaching and an understanding of sports and coaching governance. There may also be the opportunity to gain additional qualifications in First Aid, Safeguarding and Disability Awareness Training.

You will be supported by experienced academics and industry experts, several of whom are renowned for their work in coaching across the world. As part of your ongoing development you will learn how to analyse your own methods and continuously improve your approaches to coaching.

The course is taught through lectures, seminars and practical sessions and includes placement time working as a sports coach. This hands-on experience is a great way to develop your professional skills in a highly competitive field – truly giving your career the edge.

To enhance your development, you can also apply to work as a volunteer or intern for Northumbria University Sport’s Student Development programme offering the opportunity to work with young people and communities.
