Full-time Undergraduate Scholarships for EU Students in 2017/18

Northumbria University is committed to supporting EU students with outstanding academic ability.  Scholarships available for students joining an undergraduate programme in academic year 2017/18 are outlined below.

EU Undergraduate Academic Excellence Scholarships

The University will offer scholarships of up to £2,000 to students from EU member states who meet specific academic criteria and successfully enrol on a full-time undergraduate programme at Northumbria University.

Scholarships will be paid to students in three instalments,  25% in November 2017, 25% in February 2018 and 50% in May 2018.

Country Academic Requirements

Austria Reifeprüfungszeugnis/Maturazeugnis (High School Leaving Certificate) with an overall grade of 1.5 
Belgium Certificat d’Enseignement Secondaire Supérieur; Getuignschrift van Hoger Secundair Onderwijs; or Abschlusszeugnis der Oberstufe Sekundarunterrichts with an overall grade of 8/10 or 17/20
Bulgaria Diplomaza Sredno Obrazonvaine (Diploma of Secondary Education) with an overall score of 5.6
Croatia Svjedodžba o Maturi with an overall grade of 4.0
Cyprus (EU) Apolytirion  with an overall grade of 19 
Czech Republic Maturita/Maturitni Zkouška Vysvedcení/Maturitní Zkoušcewith an overall grade of 1.5
Denmark Studentereksamen (or equivalent) or Højere Forberedelseseksamen with an overvall grade of 10 (out of 13) on old grading system or 10 (out of 12) under the new scale

Gümnaasiumi lõputunnistus (Secondary School Certificate) with average grade 85%

Finland Ylioppilastutkinoto/Studentexamen (Matriculation Certificate) with an overall grade of Eximia cum laude approbatur (6)
  • Baccalauréat Général or Baccalauréat Technologique with an overall grade of 14
  • Option Internationale du Baccalauréat (OIB) with an overall grade of 12
Germany Zeugnis der Allgemeinen Hochschulreife (Abitur) overall grade of 1.5
Greece Apolytirion with an overall score of 19 
Hungary Érettségi (High School Leaving Certificate) with an overall grade of 4
Ireland 140 UCAS tariff points
Italy Diploma di Esame di Stato with an overall grade of 85/100 
Latvia Atestāts par vispārējo vidējo izglītību (Certificate of General Secondary Education) with an overall grade of 9.0
Lithuania Brandos Atestatas (matura) with an overall grade of 9.0
Luxembourg Diplôme de Fin d'Etudes Secondaires with overall grade of 47
Malta Matriculation Certificate – Advanced level with a grade of A
Netherlands Diploma Voorbereidend Wetenschappelijk Onderwijs (VWO) or Diploma Middelbaar Beroepsonderwijs, niveau 4 (MBO) with an overall grade of 8.0
Poland Matura with overall average of 85% 
Portugal Diploma Nível Secundário de Educação / Certificado Nível Secundário de Educação with an overall grade of 18.
Romania Romanian Diploma de Bacalaureat with an overall grade of 9.0 
Slovakia Vysvedčenie o Maturitnej Skúške/Maturita (School leaving certificate) with an overall grade of 1.5 
Slovenia Matura with an overall grade of 4.0
Spain Titulo de Bachiller with an overall grade of 8.5
Sweden Avgångsbetyg / Slutbetyg  with overall grade of VG (Godkänd/pass) or B/17.5 
All EU Nations Outside the UK
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) with overall score of 35
  • UK A-Levels with UCAS tariff of 140 points


I am Northumbria Global Scholarship

This new award will give 5 EU Undergraduate students a scholarship covering all tuition fees during Year 1 of their studies at the University.  All you need to do is produce a 30 second video.  Only students who hold an offer for an Undergraduate programme starting in September 2017 will be able to compete for one of these high value scholarships.*  Please ensure you apply through UCAS by 15th January 2017 to be eligible to enter.  

*Students who are successfully awarded the I Am Northumbria Global Scholarship will become ineligible for the EU Undergraduate Academic Excellence Scholarship.
