Undergraduate EU students can benefit from a scholarship worth up to £9,250 to help pay tuition fees and living costs.

I am Northumbria Global EU Scholarship 2018

Northumbria is a Global University with over 30,000 students from 100 countries. Our European graduates make an important contribution to organisations and businesses in the UK and across the world.

The University will be awarding five scholarships of £9,250 and three scholarships of £4,625 to EU students who start a full-time undergraduate programme in September 2018.  Please note, this scholarship is only open to students who are ordinarily resident in an EU member state outside the UK.  EU students already resident in the UK are not eligible for this scheme.  Please refer to our terms & conditions for further information on scholarship eligibility. 

All you need to do is produce a 30 second video which tells us why you think Northumbria University and the city of Newcastle is the best choice for European students. The deadline for entries is 17:00 GMT on Friday 3rd August 2018. You can submit your video using this form. Click on the drop down menus below for more information on who is eligible to apply for this scheme and how it will be awarded.

Who is eligible for this scholarship?

You must meet the following conditions to compete for one of the eight available scholarships:

  • You must be ordinarily resident in an EU member state outside the UK.
  • You must accept an offer made by the University through UCAS as either a firm or insurance choice. Please note that students holding both conditional and unconditional offers are eligible to enter
  • You must be joining Year 1 of an Undergraduate programme commencing in September 2018
  • You must not have previously studied at the University
  • You must not be joining the University through an articulation agreement
  • Employees, agents or contractors of Northumbria University are not eligible

How do I win this scholarship?

We will ask you to submit a video lasting no more than 30 seconds which we will share on the University’s social media channels. Your video should answer the following question:

  • Why is Northumbria University and the city of Newcastle the best choice for European students?

What do you want to see in my video?

Your video can be made using any techniques or content you want, but it must be entirely your own work. You don’t have long to impress us, so make sure you produce something that is innovative, exciting and engaging. Please note that the judges will not be focusing on your film making skills. The winning videos are likely to be those which present powerful and compelling messages in an original way. You can watch videos produced by last year’s scholarship winners from Poland, Romania, Spain, Bulgaria, Greece and Czech Republic to find out why they think Northumbria University and the city of Newcastle are a great choice for European students’

There are a few things you must not include in your video.  Don’t include content that infringes a third party’s copyright. For example, your video shouldn’t include any images, footage, music or audio that you don’t have permission to use.  Your video must be no more than 30 seconds long.  Any videos submitted which are longer than 30 seconds will be disqualified.

Any videos featuring the following content will be disqualified:

  • Sexually explicit content or pornography
  • Hateful, defamatory or discriminatory content
  • Content which incites hatred against any individual or group
  • Content which exploits minors
  • Depictions of cruelty, unlawful acts or extreme violence
  • Content which promotes a fraudulent business
  • Content which breaches any law

How will the University select winners?

All videos submitted will be assessed by Northumbria staff to ensure that they are engaging and effectively showcase what the University and the city of Newcastle has to offer European students.

The best videos will then be shared on the University’s social media channels. The videos which generate the largest number of likes and shares will be put forward to our judging panel who will decide on the scholarship winners.

Please note that the University’s decision as regards the winning videos will be final.

You can use the form below to submit your video. A member of staff will review your video as soon as possible and contact you via e-mail with more information. Please note that you must accept a Northumbria offer as your firm or insurance choice through UCAS before sending us your video.
