Northumbria is pleased to be working alongside the Jaytee Foundation to offer the Jaytee Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship for September 2023.

This is the second gift made by the foundation that supports the education and personal development of young people.  The donor is an Alumnus of Northumbria University, studying at Newcastle Polytechnic and graduating in 1988 with a BSc (Honours) in Business Studies.  This gift seeks to support students in need, and in doing so contributing to the university vision to make it possible for young people from all walks of life to study at Northumbria.

The £2,500 scholarship will be awarded to one highly gifted student who chooses to study on one of Northumbria's Full-Time Undergraduate programmes.  The scholarship will be paid throughout years one, two and three** (to a total of £7,500) and the money can be used to enhanced the overall university experience.

Terms and Conditions

To be eligible for the Jaytee Scholarship you must:

  • Be a UK/Home applicant
  • Achieve at least 144 points (or equivalent) from your best three qualifications, for example AAA at A Level or DDD at BTEC
  • Have a household income of under £40,000
  • Apply and enrol to study on one of the Full-Time courses* listed below at the Newcastle Upon Tyne campus, starting in September 2023
  • Choose Northumbria as your firm choice by 08 June 2023
  • Meet all individual entry requirements
  • Be a self-funded student (ie, not in receipt of sponsorship or other funding for the payment of fees, such as employer funding)
  • Apply for one or more elements of the Government Student Finance package (for example, Tuition Fee loan, Maintenance loan) in order for your application to be means-tested
  • Register with Student Finance England (SFE), Student Finance Wales (SFW) or Student Finance Northern Ireland (SFNI)
  • As a Scottish student, register with Student Award Agency for Scotland (SAAS) and apply to be means-tested for maintenance funding, in order that SASS can send your data to Student Finance England
  • Agree to share consent via your Government Finance Provider with Northumbria University

Eligible Courses

  • All three-year Undergraduate courses.  If you choose to undertake a course that includes a placement year, the Jaytee Scholarship will not be paid in that year.

Important Information

  • The student selected for the Jaytee Foundation Scholarship will not be eligible for any other Undergraduate scholarship schemes
  • The scholarship is awarded as cash
  • Payments will be made as 25% of total in November 2023, 25% of total in February 2024 and 50% of total in May 2024
  • Funding is provided on an annual basis, on the condition the successful student progresses to the next year of study
  • **If you choose to undertake a placement year, the scholarship will not be paid in this year
  • The successful student will be required to send a thank you letter to the donor
  • Progress updates for the donor will be requested at the end of each academic year.  Subsequent payments will not be made until these updates are received
  • If you do not provide a thank you letter and progress updates to the donor, the scholarship may be withdrawn
  • If you defer your place at Northumbria University before the scholarship has been paid, the scholarship offer will be withdrawn
  • If you decide to leave your course after the scholarship payment has been made, the University will not make efforts to reclaim the amount
  • The University's decision is final and cannot be challenged; there is no right of appeal

Selection Process

  • Students who are eligible for the Jaytee Scholarship will be identified by Northumbria University post-enrolment, there is no separate application form
  • The successful Jaytee Scholarship student will be chosen from eligible students at random, and will be notified by the end of October 2023
