 1. Plan your day

  • Check the venue of the interview and work out the best way to get there
  • Arrive earlier so you can find the building/room of the interview

2. Plan your outfit

  • Smart-casual is usually the best idea
  • Don’t be afraid to wear what best represents you as a creative individual

3. Be prepared

  • The process should be explained in your invitation to interview letter from the university
  • Some courses will expect you to interact with other candidates in group tasks during the interview
  • Sometimes you might be required to undertake a written exercise so be familiar with writing logically and legibly under time restraints

4. Practice makes perfect

  • Practice interview questions with a parent or friend to get used to answering them confidently

5. Portfolio tips

  • Bring the best pieces of your work using a carry case that is easy to flip through
  • Be prepared to talk about the process and what inspired you to create your piece
  • Digital work: make sure you have an offline version just in case you are not able to get WiFi

Fashion Communication student Bethany knows exactly what it feels like to prepare a portfolio for interview, having been through the process herself.  Why not check out her handy hints and tips guide here.

6. Big yourself up

  • Sell yourself, this is your time to impress them with what you have to offer to the course

7. Make the most of your visit

  • Visit the campus and take a look around. Why not book a campus tour before you arrive?
  • Take time to explore the city and get a feel for the place.

8. Finally…

  • You’ve already made a great impression by the fact that you’ve been asked to attend an interview so just be you and remember how great you are!
