Getting your Student Finance on time

Here are some tips for making sure you get your Student Finance as quickly as possible. Remember that if you are an undergraduate your tuition fee loan will be paid directly to the University and your Maintenance loan will be paid into your nominated bank account.

  • If you are going to attend Northumbria but we were not your first choice university, you must update Student Finance or this will delay your loan.
  • Northumbria University confirm your registration when Student Finance advise us that your application has been successful. If there is any aspect of your Student Finance application that is incorrect or incomplete, registration confirmation and consequently your loan payment, will be delayed. So make sure you have dotted all the ‘i’s’ and crossed all the ‘t’s’ on your Student Finance application.
  • Your loan won’t be released until Northumbria University confirm your attendance. Make sure you have fully enrolled by the official start date of your course so that we confirm your attendance to Student Finance at the earliest possible moment.  Once we have sent confirmation it can take three working days for your money to reach your bank account.
  • If you open a new student bank account don’t forget to update your bank details on your Student Finance account. Choosing your student bank account is a crucial step in managing your finances effectively during your studies. Be sure to research different banks and their offerings before making a decision. • Beware of phishing scams. Fraudsters often target students around payment dates at the start of term. Make sure that any e-mails claiming to be from Student Finance England asking you to confirm you bank details are deleted and not replied to - they would never ask you to confirm your bank details or log-in information by email.
