Information before travelling to the UK

There are many things you need to know before coming to the UK.  Things you need to prepare for include Tier 4 visa information, your finances and your accommodation.  For more information, see ‘New Student Visa Information’ below and our Get Ready for Northumbria Guide.  

The University offers a Meet and Greet service for new students whereby we will meet you at Newcastle Airport on specific dates and help you to get to your accommodation. There will be Northumbria University Welcome Information for all new students to help you find out about studying in Newcastle.

New Student Visa Information

Health Charges

Students applying for Tier 4 visas, whether applying from within the UK or from overseas, have to pay an Immigration Health surcharge to enable access to any National Health Service (NHS) services.  For more information, please see the links below:

Biometric Residence Permit (BRP)

Students applying for Tier 4 visas from their home country will receive a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP).  For more information, please refer to the link below:

Renting accommodation in the UK

If you are planning to rent accommodation from a private landlord, the landlords are required to check the immigration status of a tenant before granting a tenancy agreement.  For more information please click here
