Change of course direction

Now in her third year, for Anusha Ravi, a career in health is just around the corner.

When she didn’t get the grades she needed for the Biomedical Science course she had originally applied for, Anusha decided to see what other options were available to her, leading to an exciting change in direction.

Having already researched Northumbria University, Newcastle while originally applying for university, Anusha decided to see what courses were available through clearing and discovered a Human Biosciences programme which, it turned out, was far more suited to her.

Anusha's Story

Anusha said: “When I was applying for courses initially, I did look at Northumbria and although I put down another firm and insurance choice, when I didn’t get the grades I needed, I decided to see what Northumbria had available as I knew I would enjoy studying there.

“When I contacted Northumbria to discuss my results and UCAS points they suggested relevant courses that had places and might be a good fit for me. I went away and spent some time researching the different courses and the more I looked into them, the more Human Biosciences appealed to me. The course modules sounded really interesting and covered topics that I wanted to study, so I knew it was the course for me.

“I’m so glad that I went through clearing otherwise I would have never considered studying Human Biosciences. I have absolutely loved my course and really enjoyed being a student at Northumbria. It has been hard work, but I know when I get my results it will have all been worth it.

“I love living in Newcastle, as there is so much to see and do. I have loved meeting so many different people at university and living in halls in my first year was a great way to do this. I would also recommend joining different clubs and societies, as they are so much fun. Throughout my time at Northumbria I have played hockey and been a member of the university’s acapella team.

“My advice to anyone going through clearing is don’t panic, you will find a course that you will like. Consider different options and research courses, make sure you pick something you like. Take everything in your stride, go for it and you’ll be fine.

“I’m now looking forward to graduating and taking another step towards my dream of becoming a qualified Physician Associate working in the NHS.”
