I found the right course for me – Keely’s story

18 year old Keely from Newcastle came to Northumbria directly through Clearing, having changed her mind about studying at university. With good A-Level grades and a love of sports, Keely’s now studying Sports Coaching and found Clearing to be a very positive experience

“I wasn’t familiar with the Clearing process beforehand” said Keely, “and it was a much better experience than I’d expected.

“I had so many questions which the people on the Clearing line were very happy to help me with.

“The biggest issue for me was that I’d never even looked at UCAS before. I wasn’t expecting to go to university at all. I had planned to go and do a ski season abroad, but then Covid hit.

“I was happy with my A-Level results, so thought I’d see what my options were.

“I’d heard good things about Northumbria from my friends, and also wanted to stay local, so I had a look to see if there were any courses that would suit me.

“I’m now studying Sports Coaching and it is 100% the right course for me. I’m learning so much about coaching and sports science. I love that there’s a mixture of study and practicals, and I think the sporting facilities on campus are excellent.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my experience so far. I’m from Newcastle, so living at home has had its benefits this last year.

“Staff have been very supportive during the pandemic and I often get phonecalls to check I’m doing ok, which has been a nice extra to have.

“I’m now looking forward to the rest of my studies, meeting new people and making the most of the Newcastle city lifestyle.”

Northumbria University has a limited number of places available for students through Clearing this summer. For more information, visit or call the Clearing Hotline on 0800 085 1085.
