Megan Crawley

Megan Crawley, originally from Northern Ireland, came to study Business Management at Northumbria University after gaining a place through clearing in 2016.

Megan's Story

When she didn’t get the grades she needed for the University she had originally applied for, Megan decided to see what other options were available to her, leading to an exciting change in direction.

Discussing A-level results day, Megan reflects on her clearing experience. She said: “Even though I was disappointed on the day, I am pleased with how everything turned out and I’m really glad that I went through the clearing process at Northumbria.

The people on the hotline were very reassuring which made me really excited about the new experience I was about to undertake.”

“If on results day you don’t get your first choice university, going through clearing is definitely something that should be considered and I think should be talked about more. It doesn’t mean that you have to wait a year to go to university, so I would say that if you’re thinking about it, to just go for it!”

Megan also highly praises her course and tutors at Northumbria, saying that the people that she has met throughout her time here have added to her positive experience.

She said: “I like that there are a lot of different modules so you’ll find something within each area that you enjoy. My module tutors are very supportive, and they are always available to help you whether it’s an email response or a chat in person.”

Now in her third year of study, Megan is preparing to begin a work placement in London as part of her degree.

“I’m really excited to be starting my work placement in September. I felt the University prepared me really well. Northumbria gave me all the guidance with modules in how to apply and how to succeed in interviews and I’m really looking forward to the new experience.”

“Northumbria has really helped me to progress on to my chosen career path as at the start of my degree I didn’t know what direction to take, whereas now I have more clarity. The University has equipped me with the skills and experience through my modules to help me build a more rounded view of what I’d like to after I graduate.”
