Lecturer Communication Design (Maternity Cover)

Northumbria University has a dynamic School of Design. The School has an international reputation for design research and innovation that transforms ways of thinking, making, and living through new products, services, and experiences. Our staff have pioneered original approaches for evolving design research practices, especially emerging technologies and craft, co-creation and participatory design, and responsible innovation.

With this appointment, we are particularly interested in applicants with expertise that will contribute and extend our already outstanding Communication Design academic team and grow our capabilities in the areas of graphic design and interaction design to help shape and lead the future of the disciplineOur Communication Design subject group includes an undergraduate Graphic Design and our postgraduate programme in Communication Design.

You will be encouraged to develop curriculum within the Communication Design subject group underpinned by your research and professional practice. We are looking for a general familiarity with graphic design practices and theories such as visual research, concept development, ideas development, typography, branding and illustration whilst also have wider knowledge in co-designing, UI/UX, service design and design fiction.

Contributing a high level of creative expertise across our BA Graphic Design and MA Communication Design programmes, you will be an inspirational teacher who can work effectively in a team. You will have an advanced understanding of design practice demonstrating the requisite mixed academic knowledge and professional skills to manage and deliver high-quality design leaning opportunities for our students.
