The Advancement Office is responsible for building relationships that inspire alumni and other stakeholders to support Northumbria University through philanthropic giving. The team works with partners and supporters who have a shared ambition of making a positive and sustainable difference to the education, experience, and future aspirations of our students.

We are looking for a new team member to assist with the administration of student prizes and to take a supporting role in liaising with donors, academics and student recipients.

The successful applicant will be enthusiastic and self-driven with good communication skills. They will have a positive, flexible approach to team working and the ability to adapt to new skills.  

To succeed in this role, you will enjoy communicating and have a professional, customer focused approach to your work. You will have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages and some experience of databases or record keeping would be beneficial. You will be highly organised with the ability to manage and prioritise your own workload to meet deadlines.

Step 1

They will provide you with more information and carry out an initial assessment of your suitability for the vacancy. Suitable candidates will then be given a Letter of Recommendation, which you need to make your application through the Northumbria University website by the closing date -

It is important you combine the Letter of Recommendation together with your CV and Covering Letter and upload it all as one document when you apply.

The training provider can give you tips on CV layout and content to help you make the most of the opportunity.

Step 2

At Northumbria, we will then carry out what we call a “shortlist” which is to look at each CV and Covering letter against the Person Specification (you will find this in the Role Description). Successful individuals at this stage will be invited to meet with us.

Step 3

Those invited to meet us at our selection event will be provided with more information.

You will also be asked to take part in a short work-based activity and attend an interview. This is an opportunity for us to know more about you and for you to ask questions about the role and what makes Northumbria University a great place to work.

Under the apprentice scheme, 20% of your working hours will be invested in training towards the achievement of your qualification. In addition to the support offered through the training provider, a workplace mentor will provide practical advice and guidance throughout the duration of your apprenticeship.

Future Prospects

The training opportunity has been aligned to develop your skills and abilities to carry out a future HR Administrator role. Following the successful completion of your apprenticeship,it is anticipated that you will be ready to apply for a role of this nature.

Your line manager will meet with you regularly to review your progress and confirm opportunities available towards the end of your apprenticeship. This may include an offer of a permanent role together with the potential to explore further training and development. We are keen to support all staff in developing their potential and making the most of the learning and development opportunities available via apprenticeship routes.
