Shannon Allen

Shannon is a Senior Research Assistant in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences at Northumbria University.

Shannon is currently undertaking a part-time PhD in Criminology at Northumbria University exploring the impact of moral injury across different UK armed forces populations. This is a mixed methodological project utilising psychometric questionnaires and semi-structured interviews with UK service-police and non-service police veterans.

The primary project Shannon is currently engaged in is a mixed-method exploratory study investigating the long-term impact of widowhood during Covid-19 in order to develop recommendations for future practice.

Previously, Shannon worked in the Northern Hub for Veterans and Military Families Research. Although involved in a number of projects, Shannon primarily worked on the One is Too Many Project investigating suicide within the Armed Forces and Veteran population and the impact of this on bereaved family members.

Before working at Northumbria, Shannon completed a BSc (Hons) in Psychology with a Year Abroad at King’s College London and an MSc in Forensic Psychology at Newcastle University.
