NORTHUMBRIA UNIVERSITY GLOBAL PARTNERSHIPS CONFERENCE 2024

15th - 19th of April 2024

Northumbria University’s First Transnational Education Conference – April 15th to 19th 2024

In April 2024, Northumbria University proudly hosted its inaugural Transnational Education (TNE) Conference, welcoming valued colleagues from around the world to our Newcastle City Campus for five days of collaboration, insight, and innovation.

We invited our global partnerships from Spain, Hong Kong, South Korea, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Singapore and Grenada; some visiting Newcastle and Northumbrias Campus for the first time.

Day 1 began with a warm welcome, a guided tour of the campus, and a keynote session exploring the holistic impact of our global partnerships on the communities we serve. Delegates also participated in operational discussions on student mobility, concluding the day with a formal welcome dinner with our esteemed guests, Tom Lawson, Pro Vice Chancellor of International and Andy Long Vice Chancellor.

Day 2 focused on governance and collaboration, featuring a session on Programme and Assessment Board regulations, a case study discussion with St. George’s University and a tour of Drill Hall, and a panel on professional accreditation. A spotlight session addressed mental health support for students, with an optional guided tour of the historic sites in Newcastle City Centre in the evening.

Day 3 tackled emerging challenges and opportunities in education, including academic integrity in the age of AI, fostering student voice and experience, and collaborative branding strategies. Attendees explored partnership success stories presented by Business Management School from Siri Lanka, and were invited to tour the Coach Lane Campus, where an interactive workshop showcased Northumbria’s leading Nursing program.

Day 4 provided personalized engagement through drop-in sessions with faculty directors and program leaders, alongside discussions on Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) initiatives. A workshop focused on team growth within the Global Partnerships team fostered collaborative development.

Day 5 concluded with a case study on the partnership with Qatar Finance and Business Academy, an exploration of Northumbria’s Virtual Learning Environment, and a deep dive into the university’s approvals process. The conference ended with closing remarks from Vice Chancellor Andy Long and a networking session in the Great Hall, solidifying connections and shared aspirations for the future of TNE at Northumbria University.

This groundbreaking event reinforced Northumbria University’s commitment to transformative transnational education, creating lasting impact through meaningful collaboration with our global partners and solidifying Northumbrias international standing

Thank you to all of our esteemed attendees for your thoughtful engagement and thank you to the session leaders and support staff who made this momentous event possible.
