Students' Union

Independent of the University and led by a team of Sabbatical Officers elected from students by students, NSU is here to make sure that your time at Northumbria is the best it can be – in fact; it’s our mission to have a positive impact on the lives of all our students.

You can find us at City Campus, Coach Lane and London Campus, working hard to make sure you’ve got everything you need, whether that’s a drink at one of our award winning bars, joining one of 130+ societies, or some advice about your course from our free representation service.

Made up of bars, nightclubs, coffee shops, workspaces, chill out zones and meeting rooms, NSU has everything you need to make the most of your time as a student – the best bit is we’re a charity, so every penny spent here is reinvested into improving your student experience.

So no matter who you are, how old you are or where you’re from, make sure you come along to your Students’ Union – it’s time to make some memories.

Get Involved

University is a great time to try new things, meet new people and have some fun and make friends for life; at NSU we combine all of these things with opportunities to make your CV outstanding. We have over 90 societies for you to try from Snow Sports and Game of Thrones to Debating and Pole Dancing from faith societies to societies for your course to student media. Our students also volunteer in the community from animal shelters to raising thousands of pounds for charity with Raise and Give - a passion for fancy dress is key.

Speak Up

NSU is here to represent the views of every student to the University, the local community and beyond. We support student representatives from programmes, departments and from different social and cultural backgrounds.

We campaign to make positive change on your behalf, if you have an issue affecting any part of your student life at Northumbria – Speak Up and we’ll make sure your voice is heard. In recent years, NSU and the Sabb Team have campaigned to lower the cost of graduations ceremony tickets, reduced car parking at Coach Lane as well installing more cycle racks on campus following your feedback.

Here at NSU we know how important it is to blow off steam after a busy day/week/month at uni, so we do everything we can to make sure that you can play as hard as you work.

Our award winning bars and venues have everything you need to get that much deserved R&R -from everyday good value on food and drinks to quality entertainment; including performances from up-and-coming acts, to your home team on our big screens.

Alternatively you can relax in Reds. Also serving great value drinks and Starbucks coffee, the bar and club is the perfect place to chill out and play pool with friends, it also hosts some epic club nights and gigs throughout the year.
