You will be a graduate, but not necessarily with a first degree in management. You’ll have three or more years of work experience, ideally in a management role and be keen to invest in a MBA programme that will give you the skills and knowledge to progress your career to more senior levels. Alternatively, you will be looking for the opportunity to use the MBA programme as a stepping-stone to a new career or start a new venture.

You will be intelligent, articulate, confident, and ambitious and motivated to share your experiences with others and commit to a challenging learning experience that will help you understand your strengths and weaknesses and develop your global vision to become future leader in the 21st century.

The Newcastle Business School MBA is an innovative postgraduate work related degree programme available to study full-time, part-time, or by distance learning.

The MBA provides an excellent learning platform for aspiring or existing leaders and managers, and will:

  • Enhance business practice through the integration of global management approaches
  • Engage world class research with contemporary business practice
  • Encourage innovation, enterprise, creativity and sustainability
  • Enhance leadership capability via experiential learning, critical analysis and strategic thinking
  • Enable the transformation of capable individuals from emerging leaders to strategic leaders

As part of the participants’ professional requirements on the full-time MBA programme, they will be encouraged to reflect on their own progress, and identify both learning and any related shortfalls.  Potential and chosen strategies to meet these shortfalls will also be identified.  The Leadership Attribute and Employability Programme  provides the initial introduction to the underlying philosophy of a critically reflective approach to personal development.  This module supports the development of relevant knowledge and skills for learning to learn, individual learning and actively encourages the development of learning managers through the use of Learning Sets.  Attached to this module is a programme residential; which is based on exploring and developing an understanding of self and others in terms of individual and group processes and behaviour.  This module allows participants of the full-time MBA programme to meet and work with their counterparts from the part-time MBA programme, who are regionally based and typically UK participants, thus providing the participants across the “MBA family” with an opportunity to gain experience of studying within a cross-cultural context.

There is also a two-day leadership residential event during the MBA study.  This residential will be used to investigate the nature of management research and the application of qualitative research methods (which complements the core module content in terms of the development of quantitative research methods skills)

Participants are also encouraged to further their learning and development by participating in additional development opportunities within Newcastle Business School such as the MBA Forum where invited guest speakers from corporate organisations will discuss and debate on contemporary issues within the global business.

Expanding your horizons on an international Study Mission

At Newcastle Business School we’re fortunate in welcoming a diverse and vibrant MBA community from all over the world. The one week study mission included in your full-time course fee extends your international experience even further – which has recently including inspiring visits to South Africa, the Czech Republic, Germany, Canada, Hungary and Austria. We select partners from multinational and local businesses in a broad range of service and manufacturing sectors. It’s your chance to spend time with key business thinkers, industry leaders and entrepreneurs before taking part in student workshops to debate the contrasting business models you encounter – and associated theory.

For us, understanding and appreciating other cultures is a key factor for success in international markets. That is why we always ensure there is time for guided talks and other cultural experiences during your study mission stay.

Testimonials

“Being an international student, the study mission was a truly fantastic experience for me, both professionally and personally. Exposing me to different methods of doing business across Europe (Austria & Hungary), along with an understanding of the influencing socio-economic factors, in my view shall be very useful in my future career.

Personally, learning about great European cultures, visiting beautiful cities and bonding with my classmates and tutors, are memories I shall cherish forever.”

Anjani Kant, MBA student from India

“There was much more than studying in the event; what makes it distinctive for me, was not only beautiful cities and company visits, but lots of opportunities to explore cultural differences, as well as getting to know the great people that are our fellow students and tutors.’’

Nazli Nejadsattari, MBA student from Iran

“The Study Mission was a wonderful experience. It helped us to see the opportunities and challenges in the real world of business and also the dichotomy between theory and practice.”

Sarath Subu Chandrasekar, MBA student
