Computer and Information Sciences

The Department of Computer and Information Sciences is home to all of our work in artificial intelligence, digital forensics and cyber security, digital networks, social computing, human–computer interaction, games, internet of things, big data and information sciences.

Geography and Environmental Sciences

We specialise in cold and palaeo environments, social and cultural geographies, communities and resilience, environmental geochemistry and health, and ecology, through projects in more than 30 countries, from the poles to the tropics.

Humanities

Our Department of Humanities includes the subject areas of History, English Literature, English Language and Linguistics, Creative Writing and American Studies.

Mathematics, Physics and Electrical Engineering

Home to our teaching and research specialisms in mathematics, physics and astrophysics, electrical and electronic engineering, mobile communication, microelectronic, renewable and sustainable energy technologies, and advanced materials.

Mechanical and Construction Engineering

Northumbria School of Design

Our School of Design covers Industrial, Fashion, Communication and Innovation Design. With alumni including Apple’s Sir Jonathan Ive, principal designer of the iPad, iPhone and iMac, our design community examines design in the context of use, beauty and social and cultural contexts.

The School of Design, Arts and Creative Industries brings together innovative, inter-disciplinary research and experiential education in pursuit of the betterment of people, place, cultures, and societies

Nursing, Midwifery & Health

Northumbria University is well-established with highly rated Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) and Health Professional Council (HPC) approved events. Our BSc nursing programmes are highly ranked in the UK league tables and are accredited by the Royal College of Nursing.
