David Warmsley

Following graduation I did a teaching course at Leicester and ended up trying to teach art for 14 years at Coulby Newham Secondary School (southern edge of Middlesbrough). Then, for ten years, I was Education Officer for English Heritage’s northern region, returning to Newcastle and based on the Quayside, responsible for education support for historic sites between the Humber and the Tweed. Why me? Well they wanted someone to promote historic sites as a stimulus for art projects.

Redundancy opened a Pandora’s box of many interesting opportunities as a freelance consultant working for  national and regional agencies, developing educational resources – print, DVD and web – liaising with photographers, illustrators, designers, drawing on both my graphic design ‘training’ and educational background.

Local clients included Tyneside Cinema, just down the road; Darlington Hippodrome; Tyne and Wear Museums ...

National clients included CADW (Welsh equivalent of English Heritage); Edinburgh World Heritage; Churches’ Conservation Trust; The Theatres Trust; Association of Parks and Gardens and the Council for British Archaeology.
