Education Development, Celebration and Recognition

Education Development Home page

At Northumbria, colleagues across all disciplines shape inspiring and innovative learning experiences that help our students thrive. Our Education Development activity provides the support, resources and recognition that enable everyone involved in teaching or supporting learning to continue developing their practice and showcasing their contributions to high‑quality education.

Here's what makes our approach to education development stand out:

Education Professional Recognition

Demonstrating Northumbria’s commitment to pedagogical excellence, our Advance HE‑accredited professional recognition scheme offers colleagues across the University access to a vibrant community of practice. The scheme is open to everyone involved in teaching or supporting learning, providing a meaningful route to gain recognition for their expertise and ongoing contribution to high‑quality education. Currently:

Celebrating Excellence in Education

Outstanding teaching practice is recognised and celebrated through a wide range of activities at Northumbria. Our annual Education Awards programme showcases exceptional contributions to learning and teaching, and we offer dedicated support for colleagues pursuing external awards. Education Award holders, alongside our active community of Senior and Principal Fellows, play a vital role in enhancing education across the University, mentoring colleagues, championing pedagogical innovation, and contributing to our collective educational excellence.
