Implementing a Restorative Just and Learning Culture
Wednesday 6th May 2026 (Pre-requisite: Participants must have completed the 4-day or 3-day Restorative Just and Learning Programme prior to undertaking this programme)

Newcastle Business School, Northumbria University and Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust are proud to present this half-day digital virtual programme: Implementing a Restorative just and Learning Culture.

The programme is for anyone involved in the development of a Business Case and/or the implementation of Restorative Just Cultures and Practices in their organisation.

Northumbria Universities research ‘Restorative Just Culture Interventions: implementation and effectiveness in NHS Trusts’  is at the forefront of research on restorative implementation approaches and has been incorporated into our 2026 programmes providing ‘up to date’ insights from 45 NHS Trusts in England.

Just cultures that are restorative as opposed to retributive are becoming increasingly recognised for their contribution in dealing with adverse events and significant incidents, managing employee relations, developing high performing teams, increasing psychological safety and civility and respect amongst staff, and enabling the delivery of safe and continuous care.

On the programme, you will learn the theory behind the Restorative Just and Learning Culture rationale and opportunity to change, the models for change ‘planting the seed to watch it become a reality’, assess the context and readiness of your own organisation. The programme also includes sessions on project management, stakeholder management and analysis, engagement and communication and monitoring and evaluation of implementation.

The benefits of a Restorative Just and Learning Culture approach include improved relationship management across your organisation, improved staff survey results, reduced grievance and disciplinary cases and increased motivation, which lead to higher levels of safe and continuous care. In addition, your organisation will see cost savings in staff sickness, employee relations cases, and staff recruitment/backfill.
