What will I learn on this module?

In this module, you will learn about the multidisciplinary impact of issues related to exercise and health. Furthermore, you will gain an understanding of possible short-term interventions and of the implications of outcomes of such interventions. The module will first guide you through issues related to exercise and health, which may include the aetiology of clinical disorders or sub clinical risk factors for chronic conditions. You will then learn of the impact of such issues and how it can influence the functioning of an individual across multiple disciplines. Finally, the module will build on this knowledge and give you an awareness of possible intervention strategies with the aim of addressing one or more discipline specific issues. You will then gain an understanding of the implications of the intervention from a physiological, psychological and/or biomechanical perspective.

How will I learn on this module?

The module will be taught through interactive lectures which may include discussions and tasks, seminar sessions which include small group discussion and tasks, as well as practical laboratory workshops. Sessions will be delivered in a variety of formats in order to utilise the potential of each learning platform. You will be able to access materials in advance on the eLP to familiarise yourself with the content of each session. Core content will be delivered through lectures in an interactive format. Furthermore, to allow you to take a multi-disciplinary approach, staff will also facilitate more in-depth discussion of each topic using established guidelines for intervention as well as case studies and research articles. Collectively, this will enable you to develop both your critical thinking and problem-solving skills to gain an understanding of interventions and the implications of their outcome in a multidisciplinary nature. You will also be encouraged to engage in independent study, in particular the reading of current journal articles, or engaging in other formats (e.g. podcasts, websites) in order to further your knowledge in the area.

How will I be supported academically on this module?

You will be supported through a variety of means throughout the module. The introduction session of the module will provide you with important module information including some details on assessment. The eLP will also be means of accessing information about session content and assessment. The eLP will also be used by the module staff team to communicate announcements and other information to support you such as discussion boards or the messaging service. In addition to this, staff will be available during tutorial hours for individual support outside of timetabled hours. An assessment session will be provided during the module to afford you the opportunity to ask assessment related questions. During the module, you will have the opportunity to receive formative feedback on your development. Further academic skills will be supported through the University Library services.

How will I be assessed?

The summative assessment will be an examination (2 hours; 100%), which will assess all the module learning outcomes (KU 1,2; IPSA 3; PVA 4). You will be provided with information related to an exercise and health intervention. Using the information, you will be required to critique and evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention.

This assignment will assess your ability to understand interventions in health and exercise contexts.

Formative assessment will be provided to you during seminars to help you develop and enhance your skills in identifying appropriate interventions and critiquing standard interventions that have been employed.

Summative Feedback
You will receive written or audio feedback on your summative assessment to help you identify areas of strength and areas for development. There will be the opportunity to discuss your feedback with a member of staff during a tutorial.
