Women's Sport and Wellbeing IDRT Hosts Inaugural Summit

The Women’s Sport and Wellbeing Interdisciplinary Research Theme (IDRT) recently held its first-ever summit that focussed on one powerful message: collaboration is not optional, it’s essential.

Bringing together voices from academia, sport, clinical practice, and advocacy, the summit created a vibrant space for cross-sector dialogue aimed at improving outcomes in women’s sport and wellbeing. Keynote speakers Kelly Gordon (Executive Lead, NETBALLHer) and Hannah Davies (Executive Director, Health Equity North) provided attendees with thought-provoking insights at the intersection of sport and health, setting the tone for a day of meaningful exchange.

The event also celebrated excellence in research, with awards going to:

  • Jessica Banks – Best Poster Presentation
  • Niamh Roach and Sarah Kyle – Best Oral Presentations

Attendees praised the summit for its authenticity and relevance, with one participant noting, “It really brought the importance of our work home to me.” Another added, “Refreshing - it wasn’t just another ‘we need to do more research in women’ message!”

As the IDRT looks ahead, the summit marks a strong foundation for future collaboration and impact. The momentum is building, and the future of women’s sport and wellbeing depends on it.
