Northumbria graduate optimises SME success

Northumbria University recently welcomed back Ethical Hacking graduate and Founder of Karma Computing, Chris Simpson, to the University to deliver a workshop on ‘Growing Your Business with Digital Marketing’ to SMEs.

Chris was supported by the University’s free start-up support service, the Student and Graduate Enterprise, to start his own business and was able to take advantage of the free office space and bespoke mentoring services. Chris’ business is going from strength to strength and has recently been accepted on to the world’s largest free business accelerator for early stage and growing ventures.

Chris is a Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) specialising in supporting SMEs to be competitive in the digital economy by applying IT tools and techniques used by larger organisations. Chris has developed extensive knowledge of digital marketing, particularly in search engine optimisation (SEO) including adwords and analytics and was able to share his expertise with SMEs of the North East at the workshop. His aim was to equip small business owners with an understanding of digital marketing so they can measure their return on investment and avoid losing money on adwords.

Speaking of the service Chris commented:

"Thanks to Student and Graduate Enterprise’s support, Karma Computing has been able to flourish. Start-ups need a lot of bespoke advice on tackling business challenges which is why mentoring is so valuable. Where Northumbria is taking the lead is in its mentoring services which directly impact real businesses. This is why I am always looking to give back to the University and events like this are great opportunities to do so.”
