Mark Holt

Spent 1981-84 in San Francisco helping my brother build and open his architectural studio eventually working from there as a freelance graphic designer. Began some projects for Factory Record’s New York office and returned to England, where after a period of employment with Conran Associates in London I started ‘8vo’ studio with two colleagues.

8vo ran for 17 years through to 2001 during which time we did further work for Factory Records and the Haçienda club in Manchester as well as commercial projects in the UK, Germany, Thailand, Netherlands and the USA. 8vo also self-published the eight issue journal of typography, Octavo.

Between 2003-2005 I consulted to Nokia on their global rebranding followed by my opening of Better Thinking in 2005, a studio which spent a frustrating 5 years trying to convince brands to think of sustainability as a profit rather than cost centre.

In 2020 I researched, wrote, designed and self-published my book on the graphic design of the ‘72 Munich Olympics. I have 2 children and 2 grandchildren and have been married to Judi since 1988. I now live in Kenilworth.
