After studying Business with Marketing at Northumbria I gained a lot of marketing knowledge, but knowing that the future was shifting towards digital it made logical sense that I would enjoy a career in Digital Marketing.

What are you doing now?James Walker

I'm currently a Senior SEO Manager at Edge45 where I run a small team and create and oversee the SEO strategies for our clients are implemented to hit client KPIs and ultimately improve the bottom line.

What was it about Northumbria that made you decide to study here?

Northumbria had a good reputation and being in Newcastle, a city I was always fond of, it was too good an opportunity to miss.

What was it like studying at Northumbria?

It was very enjoyable studying at Northumbria, with a good balance of self-learning, learning via lectures/seminars and larger team based projects that required collaboration. It really gives you the work ethics needed to succeed.

How did studying at Northumbria help you achieve your career goals/ give your career an edge?

The course gave me the traditional marketing knowledge to then apply this to digital marketing, helping me with my career as I need to understand clients wider marketing strategies to be successful in creating SEO strategies.

Which skills/knowledge did you learn on your course that you use most now throughout your career?

Learning strong work ethics and time management really helped. Along with the understanding of marketing to be able to communicate effectively with clients.

What did you enjoy most about your time at Northumbria University?

While I worked hard, I also enjoyed a lot of the social elements that go hand in hand with being a student at Northumbria.

What advice would you give somebody who is considering studying at Northumbria?

From my experience, I would definitely recommend it - study a course related to what you enjoy and want to potentially do as a career. Northumbria is the perfect place to do it.
