Climate Modelling and Mitigation on Campus

Course: Construction Project Management with BIM, Project Management

Completed: May 2021

Number of students: 3

Brief: Model the campus to show areas of campus which would not accommodate the temperature impacts of a changing climate.  Create a map of campus showing likely temperature ranges of buildings should climate projections be realised.  Develop recommendations of how these temperature extremes could be managed.

Recommendations:

Student researchers shared a model built in IES VE software showing predicted temperatures of buildings across the city based on projected climate change in the local area. This can be used to model suggestions for mitigating hot temperatures which included HVAC systems, and changes to space utilisation.  These findings have been relayed into the to the team developing the Estate Strategy.
