Arrangements for Post Graduate Research Students (PGR/PhD)

All PGR students who may be awarded before the end of June will be invited to attend the ceremony in which their discipline resides, except from those aligned to the faculty of Business and Law. All Newcastle Business School PGR students will attend the 10:30 ceremony on Monday 6th July and all Northumbria Law PGR students will attend the 13:30 ceremony on Monday 6th July.

Booking Tickets

Email invitations will be sent to all eligible students by Easter, the email invitation will include details of how to book tickets, ticket allocations with costs and details of how to book gowns and photography.

Academic Congregation Dates

  • Winter 2020: Monday 30 November and Tuesday 1 December 2020

  • Summer 2021: Thursday 1 to Wednesday 7 July 2021

All students who complete a programme and awarded between December 1st and 30th June are invited to attend a summer congregation by email around March/April. All students completing awards between 1st July and 30th November are invited to a winter ceremony by email, by the end of September or early October.

More detailed information about up-coming ceremonies will be posted here closer to the dates of the ceremony.

Deferring your Ceremony

Graduates who cannot attend their ceremony for personal reasons can apply to defer to a future ceremony. Please download the document found here and email back to us at the email address below to apply for deferral. Please note all applications for deferral should be completed at least 7 days before the original graduation ceremony is due to take place, any deferral applications submitted after this time will not be considered.
