Northumbria University is proud to offer our IEMA approved Sustainable Carbon Management CPD course delivered in partnership with the North East Combined Authority (NECA).

Course overview

With a strong focus on sustainability, organisations will benefit from having members of the workforce engaged in IEMA approved/certified eLearning training on climate change and sustainability, thus facilitating energy saving and waste reduction measures that will save money and benefit the environment. In addition, policy objectives on sustainable carbon management and the transition to net-zero will be facilitated by having appropriately trained personnel in carbon assessment. The training will also help in meeting legal reporting requirements.

The course has been split into 3 parts, with more details below. An individual must be able to commit to completing all 3 elements in order to successfully complete the programme.

a. The Climate Crisis and your organisation

Description

This part of the course provides an introduction to the climate crisis, the latest climate science and why we are facing a climate and health emergency. The aim is to equip learners with the knowledge and skills to effectively engage meaningful conversations and action.

 Duration  2 - 3 hours
 Delivery  e-learning
IEMA  Approved
Attendees  General awareness for the workforce

b. Net Zero Carbon - an introduction

Description

Learners will be able to explain what net zero means in terms of the underlying climate science. The course will focus on national and international policy contexts, organisational benefits of net zero and the requirement to satisfy the Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SCER) regulations.

 Duration  2 - 3 hours
 Delivery  e-learning
 IEMA  Certified
Attendees  Introduction for those collecting data for basic carbon footprinting

c. Net Zero Carbon - skills for carbon calculation and reduction

Description

Many organisations have identified their supply chain emissions (Category 1 - Purchased goods and services) as their largest source of carbon emissions and a strategic opportunity to measure, report and reduce emissions towards a Net Zero position.  In addition, the requirements of PPN 06/21 require organisation to report on 5 subcategories of scope 3 (business travel, employee commuting, waste generated in operations, upstream transportation and distribution and downstream transportation and distribution). The course includes exploring options for Net Zero target setting and carbon reduction planning in line with a range of recognised standards and initiatives.

 Duration  6 - 8 hours
 Delivery  Classroom Based
 IEMA  Carbon Literacy
Attendees  An introduction to those setting Net Zero Targets and tracking progress towards them
