HA7024 - Solicitor Apprenticeship End Point Assessment (SQE2)

What will I learn on this module?

Part 2 of the SRA centralised assessment - Standardised Practical Legal Examination (SQE2), is the End-point assessment of your apprenticeship. A successful result in SQE2 brings your apprenticeship to an end, and also leads to qualification as solicitor.

There is no new teaching on this module, whose single purpose e is to enable you to register the result of the SQE2 with the university.

How will I be supported academically on this module?

Part 2 of the SRA centralised assessment - Standardised Practical Legal Examination (SQE2), is the End-point assessment of your apprenticeship. A successful result in SQE2 brings your apprenticeship to an end, and also leads to qualification as solicitor.

SQE2 is the synoptic End-point assessment of the Solicitors Qualifying Examination, and of your apprenticeship. It is conducted by an independent assessment organisation. It consists of an oral and a written assessment, each comprising several assessments of particular legal skills. Year 6 of your apprenticeship comprises a non-credit-bearing SQE2 preparation course, addressing the various practical legal skills assessed in the SQE2.

The University will continue to support you with an excellent library and teaching facilities, access to on-line legal databases, resources and appropriate software. Programme support will be provided through the e-Learning Portal (eLP) and resources through the University Library.

You will continue to be supported by the Programme Leader, your Workplace Coach and your Personal Tutor, who can be contacted in with regards to any issues you encounter for the duration of this module

Knowledge & Understanding:

1. Demonstrate knowledge in the practice areas of Criminal Litigation (including advising clients at the police station); Dispute Resolution; Property Practice; Wills and Intestacy, Probate Administration and Practice; Business organisations, rules and procedures (including money laundering and financial services).

Intellectual / Professional skills & abilities:

1. Demonstrate at the level of competence set out by the Statement of solicitor competence legal skills in client interview and attendance note/legal analysis; advocacy; case and matter analysis; legal research; legal writing; legal drafting

Personal Values Attributes (Global / Cultural awareness, Ethics, Curiosity) (PVA):

1. Demonstrate the ability to act honesty and with integrity, and in accordance with the SRA Standards and regulations

How will I be assessed?

1. Successful completion of SRA centralised assessment: Part 2 – Standardised Practical Legal Examination (SQE2). The SQE2 exam is administered and assessed by an external organisation and not the university. It is the EPA to your apprenticeship and leads to qualification as a solicitor. The exam involves legal skills assessments across several practice areas. Module abstract

The sole purpose of this module is to enable you to register the results of the assessment of your Professional Practice Portfolio and your result in Part 2 of the SRA Centralised Assessment: Standardised Practical Legal Examination (SQE2).

SQE2 is the synoptic End-point assessment of the Solicitors Qualifying Examination, and of your apprenticeship. It is conducted by an independent assessment organisation. It consists of an oral and a written assessment, each comprising several assessments of particular legal skills. Following the examination, the independent assessment organisation will notify you about the overall mark of the examination.

You will submit the result on this module, enabling the university to take record of it.
