The Northumbria Undergraduate Award for September 2024

Successful students will receive a total of £4,000, paid in instalments* throughout years one, two and three. This additional support will help students focus on their studies and assist with budgeting. All eligible self-funded students will be short listed and considered. You will be notified of this after 6 June 2024.

This information is for UK/Home students applying to study at Northumbria University on a Full-Time Undergraduate course in the academic year 2024/25.

Eligibility Criteria

Students who meet two of the three following characteristics will be considered;

You have a household income of less than £35,000**
You are from a Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic (BAME) background**
You have declared a physical and/or mental health condition, long-term illness, or learning difference on your UCAS form**

Student Finance application data will be used to verify Household Income. We must have notification of Household Income from SLC to assess you against the criterion**

Terms and Conditions

To be considered for the Northumbria Undergraduate Award you must also;

Be a UK/Home applicant - This includes students domiciled in Jersey, Guernsey, The Channel Islands, Ireland and Isle of Man
Apply and enrol to study on a on a Full-Time basis on an Undergraduate Course starting in first year at Level 4 at the Newcastle Upon Tyne campus, commencing September 2024
Choose Northumbria as your firm choice by 6 June 2024
Meet the conditions of your offer and individual entry requirements
Be a self-funded student (i.e. not sponsored by an employer)
Apply for one or more elements of the Government Student Finance package (for example, Tuition Fee loan, Maintenance loan) in order for your application to be means-tested
Register with Student Finance England (SFE), Student Finance Wales (SFW) or Student Finance Northern Ireland (SFNI)
As a Scottish student, register with Student Award Agency for Scotland (SAAS) and apply to be means-tested for maintenance funding, in order that SASS can send your data to Student Finance England
Agree to share consent via your Student Finance Provider with Northumbria University

*Important Information

Students selected for the Northumbria Undergraduate Award 2024 will not be eligible for any other Undergraduate awards
If you apply and are successful for more than one award, you will automatically receive the one of highest value
40 awards will be available across all Full Time Undergraduate courses starting first year (Level 4)
Successful students will be notified once confirmation of offer is known
The Northumbria Undergraduate Award is awarded as cash
*Payments will be made as £335 (25%) by the end of November 2024, £335 (25%) by the end of February 2025 and £665 (50%) by the end of May 2025
The award will be made for three years maximum
The award is provided on an annual basis, on the condition the successful students progress to the next year of study
No award will be made in placement year, or should you resit a year
If you are undertaking a Level 3 (Foundation Year or Extended Degree) qualification, you are not eligible for the Northumbria Undergraduate Award
If you are progressing from a Foundation Year studied at Northumbria or another institution, you are not eligible for the Northumbria Undergraduate Award
If you defer your place at Northumbria University before the Award has been paid, the Award offer will be withdrawn
If you decide to leave your course after the Award payment has been made, the University will not make efforts to reclaim the amount
The University's decision is final and cannot be challenged; there is no right of appeal
