The £2,000 scholarship will be awarded to one highly gifted student from a Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic background who chooses to study on Northumbria's Architecture BA (Hons) in September 2023. The money can be used to enhance the overall university learning experience and will be provided in the first year of study only.

We are delighted to announce three new scholarships to support students from minority ethnic backgrounds interested in studying Architecture (x1 Undergraduate) and Real Estate Surveying (x2 Postgraduate) scholarships in support of Higher Education Without Barriers fund. The GIA Surveyors Scholarships are worth £2,000 per student and will be awarded to academically talented students from minority ethnic backgrounds, so they can study one of Northumbria University’s Built Environment courses. The scholarships commence in September2023/24 and will support students with their living costs.

Oliver Nicholson, Associate Partner at GIA and alumnus of Northumbria (BSc Estate Management 2014) said: “The DEI committee hopes the scholarships not only support students throughout their studies, but also assure prospective students that there are many fantastic companies within the Real Estate Industry who are actively seeking to improve diversity and equity across their businesses. The scholarships were inspired by this year’s theme for Black History Month, “Time for Action: Not Words” and build on GIA’s commitment to Mayor’s Fund for London’s Firm Foundations campaign and Access Aspiration programme. We hope our actions inspire others to create similar programmes and commitments in the industry.”

Important Information
- The student selected for The GIA Scholarship will not be
eligible for any other Undergraduate scholarship schemes
- The GIA Scholarship is awarded as cash
- Payments will be made as 25% of total in November 2023, 25% of
total in February 2024 and 50% of total in May 2024
- Funding is provided in the first year of study only
- The successful student will be required to send a thank you letter
to the donor
- Progress updates for the donor will be requested throughout your first academic year. Subsequent payments
will not be made until these updates are received
- If you do not provide a thank you letter and progress updates to
the donor, the scholarship may be withdrawn
- If you defer your place at Northumbria University before the
scholarship has been paid, the scholarship offer will be withdrawn
- If you decide to leave your course after the scholarship payment
has been made, the University will not make efforts to reclaim the amount
- The University's decision is final and cannot be challenged; there
is no right of appeal
Selection Process
- Students who are eligible for The GIA Scholarship will
be identified by Northumbria University post-enrolment, there is no
separate application form
- If more than one student is eligible based on their point score, we will look at the 10 best overall UCAS point scores from best three and the successful student will be selected on the strength of their personal statement
- The successful student will be notified by the end of October 2023
