Meet our Graduate Futures Graduate Transitions Adviser: Lorraine Morrell

I am delighted to have the opportunity to introduce myself to you in this Northumbria University Alumni Association Welcome edition. I joined Northumbria University careers service, Graduate Futures, in 2023 in the role of Graduate Transitions Adviser.

Firstly, I would like to congratulate you on your academic success. I had the pleasure of meeting many graduates during the July 2024 congregations, and more recently, graduates who have engaged in Graduate Futures careers support since graduating.

Like you, I am a Northumbria University graduate (MSc Psychology). My own career journey has been varied both in roles and sectors including Further and Higher Education with a primary focus on supporting employability development for career success.

I understand there can be many career challenges, getting your first job, securing a professional role, achieving a promotion, and, for some, navigating a career change. Sometimes we need a little support, advice, and guidance to help us figure out what it is we want to do, what can we do, and how we can make it happen. We may also need to be armed with a backup plan, or two, and prepare for alternative paths to fulfil career aspirations. Graduate Futures can help.

Northumbria University alumni have exclusive access to Graduate Futures Careers Club for up to 5 years from graduation. This offers graduate access to Careers Online which is full of helpful careers assessment tools, Careers Flix - designed and delivered by Graduate Futures careers professionals, Industry Insights and labour market information. Additionally, there is supportive eLearning for graduates with disabilities, for international graduates and those who wish to explore opportunities abroad. Graduate Careers Club members can also search for vacancies and events via JobsOnline and book one-to-one flexible graduate careers appointments. Self-employment support is also available to you through the Student and Graduate Enterprise Team.

For further information please see Graduate Futures Information for Graduates which includes information on how to gain Graduate access to Careers Online and JobsOnline.

Should you need to contact the Graduate Futures Team please email nucareers@northumbria.ac.uk.

I wish you every success with your graduate future.
