Students to benefit further from Santander Universities Partnership

Santander is to provide nearly £100,000 of funding in 2017 to support Northumbria students, alumni and staff with new learning and employability opportunities. 

Funding will be used to support a number of projects including creating internship opportunities for students and alumni; providing international exchange and mobility opportunities for both students and staff; and creating international travel opportunities for disadvantaged students in order to broaden horizons.

The partnership is now in its second year and has already benefited a wide range of students and staff, with Santander recent opening a bank on campus to provide services to students, staff and the wider community. Speaking of how the partnership has helped him BA (Hons) International Business Management with Spanish student, Andrew Fleming, commented:

"The Santander Mobility Scholarship has enabled me to travel to Enam in Mexico, this trip allowed me to study at a Santander partner university I was not only able to learn new skills in a different university I also experienced a new culture which could not have been possible with this Santander scholarship."

Northumbria is also to host for the first time the northern final of the Santander Universities Entrepreneurship Awards as one of only three partner universities from across the UK to be chosen. This is an annual business pitching competition aimed at giving a financial boost to student and graduate business ventures in their early stages and all eligible partner universities can attend with the opportunity to win cash prizes, mentoring and start-up support.

The 2017 edition of the awards is now live, with businesses competing for a share of the £82,000 prize money as well as access to a range of other prizes designed to support and help grow their business.
