As part of the IC3 initiative, and as active IC3 partners, Newcastle and Northumbria Universities are hosting a regular series of short Research Insight Events at approximately quarterly intervals every year. These presentations will be on topics that should be of interest not only to academics, but to forward-looking colleagues from all parts of the industry.
For the next event in the series, we explore the application of Virtual Reality (VR) in the construction industry for improving training, and health & safety (H&S).
Low productivity and high accident rates have positioned the construction industry among the worst-performing industries in the world. The use of VR can address these issues by revolutionising traditional training and H&S approaches. In this seminar, we showcase recent developments in the applications of VR for training and for H&S. There will be opportunities for attendees to have hands-on experience of some of the VR tools the research group has worked with.
The event details are as follows:
Wednesday 20th of September 2023 - Virtual Reality in Construction
4:00 PM – 4:30PM Arrival, registration, and refreshments
4:30 PM – 6:00PM A series of short presentations followed by Q&A
6:00 PM – 7:00PM Discussion, Networking, and opportunities for hands-on experience
Venue: Lecture Theatre 1, City Campus East Building 1 (Business & Law) Northumbria University
Chair: Professor Richard Laing (Northumbria University)
The topics will include:
• VR for Ergonomics
• VR for Design Review
• VR Sandbox as Digital Twin of Learning Spaces
• Serious Gaming for Training in VR
Further details, including speakers, will be made available in due course. Light refreshments will be provided and there will be ample time for networking.
Further Insight Events will be at approximately 3-monthly intervals and alternately at each university. Details of these will follow.
