This event is part of a suite of masterclasses aimed at Qualified Advanced Practitioners that have been kindly part-funded by NHS England.

This masterclass is designed to support the professional development of supervisors working with Advanced Practitioners (APs) across clinical, educational, leadership, and research domains. The event aligns with NHS England's Centre for Advancing Practice guidance.

Facilitated by experienced clinicians and educators, the programme will:

  • Explore supervision within the context of multi-professional advanced practice.
  • Equip delegates with knowledge of the capabilities required of Coordinating Education Supervisors and Associate Workplace Supervisors.
  • Support development in inclusive, learner-focused supervision with attention to neurodiversity, protected characteristics, and psychological safety.
  • Address the socio-professional transitions that accompany advancement to hybrid roles in advanced clinical practice.
  • Promote understanding of critical reflection, skills acquisition, and supervision models including Proctor’s and Benner’s frameworks.
  • Provide tools to enhance supervisory practice across different pathways including MSc, integrated degree apprenticeships, and the ePortfolio (supported) route.

The day will also highlight how effective supervision can promote equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in clinical settings and enhance the psychological wellbeing of both supervisors and supervisees. Through interactive sessions and access to curated resources, attendees will be supported in evidencing their supervisory development in line with appraisal, revalidation, and regulatory expectations.

All content will be mapped to the following key components of NHS England's Centre for Advancing Practice guidance:

  • Dimensions of supervisor capability.
  • Effective and inclusive practitioner-focused supervision.
  • Supervisory models, educational theory, and assessment frameworks.
  • Maintaining and enhancing supervisory capabilities as part of workforce development.

Delegates will leave with access to relevant Centre for Advancing Practice tools and action plans to support ongoing development in supervisory roles.
