Dr Jane Davies

Assistant Professor

Department: Social Work, Education and Community Wellbeing

I have worked in higher education for over twenty years and before that, enjoyed a twelve year career working as a teacher. I have worked within senior management teams in schools, worked overseas for the British Council and before relocating to the northeast, worked at the Institute of Education (now UCL)  in London as a researcher.

I have experience of Programme leadership, am one of the Departmental Post-Graduate Research Leads, and contribute to a range of taught Programmes, mainly as part of our intitial teacher education portfolio of routes.

  • I am interested in research relating to social justice with a particular focus on anti-racist pedagogies, the needs of EAL learners, and inclusion. I am also involved in research relating to effective pedagogical practice in higher education, with a focus on the use of simulation-based learning in education.

     

  • I am interested in research which aims to tackle societal disdvantages and to address inequality. I have experience of supervising projects utilising a range of research approaches, predominantly qualitative or mixed methods.
