Steve Gilroy

As an award winning professional playwright and director, Steve Gilroy produces work on both national and international stages. With a primary focus on new plays and documentary theatre Steve spent four years at the Royal Court Theatre, London and has worked with wide range of  playwrights including; Simon Stephens, Roy Williams Sarah Daniels and David Eldridge. Steve moved to the North East from London to lead the acclaimed MA Theatre and Performance Practice (Academy) Programme and is currently Associate Head of the Department of Arts and Artistic Director of Murmur Theatre. He has worked with a range of companies since moving to the region, including the Royal Shakespeare Company, Northern Stage and the Gala Theatre, Durham and Steve was Associate Director at Live Theatre, Newcastle from 2008 to 2018. His stage work has garnered a range of awards including; Scotsman Fringe First, The Stage Best Ensemble Award, The Spotlight Award and the Jack Tinker Spirit of the Fringe Award and nominations for the Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Award and the Carol Tambor Best of Edinburgh Award.
