Dan Hodgson

Assistant Professor

Department: Computer and Information Sciences

Since joining Northumbria University in 1999 I have taught in several subject areas: system analysis, general programming, web programming, multimedia programming and multimedia asset development, 3D modelling, games programming, games design, ludology and storytelling. I have been involved in the creation of two degree programmes in the area of computer games, and have developed strong relationships with the games industry.

Some of the highlights of my teaching career have been the creation and use of a table-top role-playing game system for use in class, live coding in lectures, the creation of several thousand HTML pages in the “Dan’s Friendly Tutor” series of practical tutorials, the development of a bespoke marking application, console programming on Nintendo gamecube, and Sony Playstation 3 and 4 devkits, creating and running access events for school pupils, game jams, and demonstrating sound vibrations using a balalaika.
