Green Skills

In 2021/22, North East Combined Authority (previously North of Tyne Combined Authority), published the ‘Energy, Green Growth and Climate Change North of Tyne Blueprint’. The report detailed a bold programme of investment, collaboration and change in clean energy, green growth and adaption to climate change.

The report focussed on 4 areas:

  1. Unlocking growth based on the region’s current assets
  2. Innovation
  3. Green Skills – building the skill base to transition to cleaner ways of working
  4. Investment

Northumbria University, in alignment with our industry partners, identified 3 areas where we could support and develop green skills programmes for the future. Northumbria were awarded funding by North of Tyne to deliver an e-learning package across three strands which directly connect to the Green economy:

  1. Sustainable Materials and Manufacturing
  2. Sustainable Carbon Management
  3. Skills for Sustainable Retrofit in the Housing Sector
