This programme consists of two modules that provide you with an opportunity to explore public involvement and co-production in research. The programme is recognised and valued as the only accredited one of its kind in the UK.
On the programme you will develop knowledge underpinning both research practice and theory, including the purpose, design, methodologies, dissemination and impact of research. Most importantly you will be encouraged to consider how research can be co-produced by members of the public and used to promote marginalised groups. You will develop your own network of contacts working within research and discuss the potential development of research projects from your own interests.
The two modules provide you with the opportunity to shape your learning around your personal lived experience. You will explore how research might help you understand and share your experiences. This will also help you to understand how ‘Patient and Public Involvement / Engagement’ (PPI/E) or ‘Patient Involvement and Community Engagement’ (PICE) shapes and governs a study through its lifespan from conception to dissemination. It is intended that you will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to be a positive agent for change in research. It is intended that you’re our own experience on the programme will be key and transformational both personally and professionally. Feedback from graduates of the first module has highlighted confidence building as one of its major strengths.
Each module is delivered as part of continuous professional development (CPD). By successfully completing the optional assessment for both modules (PP0435 and PP0436), you can achieve a Certificate of Higher Education (Cert HE) worth 60 credits at level 4. It is intended that the programme will develop additional modules over time, offering opportunities to gain further skills, credits and qualifications.
To support you to apply your learning, through each module students will have opportunities to work with researchers.
