Northumbria University is partnering with LinkedIn Learning to provide you with the opportunity expand your skills and gain credit towards our Data Science MSc degree programme.

Below we provided details on the various LinkedIn Learning Pathways that map to course materials of our Data Science MSc.



LinkedIn Learning

LinkedIn Learning is an on-demand library of instructional courses covering the latest business, technology and creative skills. It provides personalised course recommendations and is designed to help learners discover the content they need to build the right skills and achieve their full potential.

Learning Pathways

Students who complete selected Learning Pathways on LinkedIn Learning are eligible to receive course credit towards our Data Science MSc degree programme upon successful completion of an online assessment.

Northumbria University are part of an exclusive partnership that will provide accreditation for LinkedIn Learning. By following the LinkedIn Learning Pathways, your credits earned will mean you have an exemption from studying one of your master’s modules, freeing you up to focus on completing the remaining modules on the programme.

How it works

  1. Complete your Learning Path on LinkedIn Learning and earn the certificate(s).
  2. Select the relevant module you would like to substitute to find out what assessment(s) are required.
  3. Complete the required assessment(s).
  4. Apply to our Data Science MSc. We will ask you to provide your assessment(s) and completed LinkedIn Learning Path certificates.
  5. Your application and assessment(s) will be reviewed. If both are approved, your LinkedIn Learning certificate(s) will be recognised as equivalent to 20 academic credits towards your degree programme.

There are two courses involved for this credential. These courses must both be completed for students to have the requisite knowledge to sit the assessment.

Learning Path Assessment

6 Page Report (3,000 words) covering the module learning outcomes:

  • Demonstrate critical understanding of foundations and principles of data science
  • Demonstrate deep knowledge of fundamental statistical methods, techniques and applications in data science
  • Critically evaluate the choice of data science techniques and tools for particular scenarios

Become a Business Analyst

There are two courses involved for this credential. These courses must both be completed for students to have the requisite knowledge to sit the assessment.

Learning Path Assessment

A poster of 1000 – 1200 words:

  • Having a conceptual and practical understanding of Business Data Analytics and its significance in businesses.
  • Showing how a business can improve/become efficient by statistical data analytics.

An 8 to 10 minutes PowerPoint presentation (having at least 5 slides) for the above poster involving these points:

  • Demonstrating knowledge and practical skills for understanding the statistical methods and techniques for data science
  • Critically assessing application of adequate techniques for understanding and exploring business data and how it can be exploited for decision making with programming in R.
  • Appraising and Applying different statistical methods and techniques to real world business environment having to deal with and exploit huge volumes of data using R programming environment
  • Evaluating and reflecting on solving real life business problems using suitable statistical techniques
  • Building a critical awareness of legal, cultural and ethical issues surrounding analysis, exploration and dissemination of data

Data Science MSc

This exciting Data Science master's has been designed by top academics in the field, in close consultation with leading data scientists from the industry and the Northumbria University Institute of Coding (IoC). It will provide you with the relevant skills needed to analyse, synthesise, and manage different types and sizes of data efficiently.

This programme is designed to train and produce data scientists who will fill a range of jobs requiring skills in methodical and statistical data analysis and help organisations (e.g., businesses, healthcare providers, financial institutions, industries) make the most of their huge amounts of data. You will develop knowledge insight from a variety of structured and unstructured data, using a range of data analysis methods, processes, algorithms, and systems.

Our Data Science MSc is available as a 1 Yearfull-time, 16 month full-time and 2 Year full-time with Advanced Practice.
