Once you have completed the Aptem onboarding process, it is time to get started on your apprenticeship.

Please expand the sections below for information on the essential actions you need to take, starting with Enrol Now. You will also find your Welcome Guide (updated version coming soon), full of information and guidance to get your journey with us off to the very best start.

Essential Actions

Please expand the sections below for the actions you need to take before you arrive, when you get here and advice on settling in.

Enrol Now

All students must be enrolled in order to study at the University.

You are advised to complete enrolment as soon as possible and arrive by your course start date so that you can attend induction activities. You can complete the full enrolment process online by logging on to your Student Portal, selecting 'Enrol' from the main menu and following the instructions.

You will need your username and password, which you should have already received by email. When you have completed this process successfully you will receive a confirmation email to your University email account. See Understanding the enrolment process in your Student Portal for full guidance.

Plan your journey to Campus

Whether you travel by rail or road, Northumbria University is easy to reach. Located in the north-east of England, Northumbria has two distinct campuses. The largest, City Campus, is centrally located in Newcastle upon Tyne. Coach Lane Campus, set in a leafy suburb, is just 3 miles from City Campus.

Wherever you are travelling from, your Welcome Pack below contains lots of useful information about travelling to campus, what to bring with you and how to ensure a smooth arrival.

Set up DUO Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) offers an extra layer of protection for your Northumbria account by adding a second step (a push notification) to verify your identity when you log in.

After enrolling onto your programme, you will be sent an email from DUO (sent by no-reply@duosecurity.com) prompting you to download the DUO Mobile app to your Smartphone.

See our Duo Multi-Factor Authentication webpage for more information.

Complete your Consent and Bystander Training

As part of the University's commitment to a safe and respectful environment, you must complete the following mandatory training as part of your induction:

Understanding consent means we are all able to have more safe, healthy and enjoyable sexual experiences. This training will help you:

  • Understand the law around consent and your ethical obligations.
  • Explore how gender, stereotypes, and culture affect consent.
  • Learn how to communicate clearly with partners and respond to sexual harassment or violence.

Bystander Training

This training will help you:

  • Learn to safely intervene using the 5Ds model - Direct, Distract, Delegate, Delay, Disapprove.
  • Recognise and challenge harmful behaviours, including those that may seem like 'banter'.
  • Understand how harassment intersects with identity.
  • Promote empathy, inclusion, and respectful expression.

Once you are fully enrolled onto your programme, you can access the training via Blackboard.
